The Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program at the University of Chicago
The Leadership Alliance
A consortium of more than 30 colleges and universities, the Leadership Alliance was established in 1992 with the aims of diversifying the research workforce. The Leadership Alliance’s Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) is a rigorous summer research experience specifically designed for undergraduates interested in pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD. SR-EIP participants have the opportunity to conduct an independent research project for nine weeks under the guidance of a research mentor.
The program provides students both theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. In addition, students participate in research seminars and professional development workshops to learn about preparing for an advanced academic career. Finally, students have the opportunity to present their research at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS), an annual national conference bringing together SR-EIP participants from different institutions, faculty/research mentors, and Alliance members and directors.
Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) at the University of Chicago
The University of Chicago is among the 22 member institutions that offers the Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP). Students participating in the SR-EIP at the University of Chicago will participate in a summer program and conduct their research projects in disciplines that span the Social Sciences Division, Division of the Humanities, Biological Sciences Division, or the Physical Sciences Division. Each division brings together numerous subgroups, committees, and programs that allow diversified research to be conducted in a collaborative, collegiate environment.
